Target sequence capture of Barnadesioideae (Compositae) demonstrates the utility of low coverage loci in phylogenomic analyses

Loci lacking molecular data for a large number of samples are commonly excluded in phylogenomics analyses, even though they may still contain valuable information. We investigated how the missing data impacts branch support and topology using the target enrichment approach.​

In addition, we shed light on the inter- and intrageneric relationships within a beautiful group of spiny South American sunflowers. Ou results show that missing data affect both the topology and branch support of the resulting phylogenies. The matrix containing all loci yielded the overall highest node support values, independently of the amount of missing nucleotides. Our phylogeny is based on 942 nuclear loci and almost complete chloroplast genomes for all species, and completely resolve the relationships with high support on nodes.
